Tru Essence Poetry Night and Spoken Word was started by Jamal Gibson on April 2, 2006 because of his love for poetry, poets, and spoken word artists. He believes that the unique ability to express oneself through lyrical means is an art in itself. To express your truest feelings on stage in front of hundreds of people is phenomonal. Tru Essence is committed to getting back to the grass roots part of poetry, and every night is dedicated to one of the famous poets, past or present.
