What do you like about Tru Essence Poetry Night?
Tru Essence Poetry is centered around the artists. It's a great platform for virgins, veterans, and anybody in between. |
What drew you to poetry?
When I was a kid, I would write poetry far beyond my years. People told me to keep writing. At 19, I'm taking it a lot more serious and people continue to encourage me. |
How long have you been writing?
I like to tell people, "I been doing this since '86. She could feel it in my baby kicks. Banging on the walls of her uterus, trying to catch a beat to split to. Instead broke through the lady's hips." |
What inspires you?
Inspiration is everywhere. It's just the matter of unlocking it's doorways. My little brother, Blake Smith who died 4 days after he was born, gives me the strength to do what I do. his name spawned Blaksmith so he is with me whenever I write or perform. |
What kind of poems do you write?
I don't really classify my poetry. At this point I feel like I still have a long way to go to find my true niche in the art. |
What do you want people to know about you?
I just want people to know that everything I write comes from the heart. |
What do you want people to know about your poetry?
Most of my poems involve storytelling so pay close attention to detail. |
Have you written any books? Any recordings?
Very soon. |
